Spindletop Center awarded 2016 Business of the Year by Texas Workforce Solutions

Spindletop Center recognized for its commitment to serving those with disabilities
 
BEAUMONT, Texas — Spindletop Center is pleased to announce that it has been named the 2016 Business of the Year by Texas Workforce Solutions for its efforts and outstanding business practices in employing people with disabilities. Through an extensive selection process, each year Texas Workforce Solutions’ Division for Blind Services recognizes employers who not only hire, but also assist persons with disabilities through education and vocational supports.
 
“When companies like Spindletop Center hire people with disabilities, it allows Texans to continue working,” said Sandra Harris, vocational rehabilitation counselor at Texas Workforce Solutions.  “Many employers are afraid to give people with visual impairments a chance, even when they have degrees.  We have consumers in Southeast Texas who are blessed to have a job at Spindletop Center even though they may have some limitations.”
 
Through its vocational rehabilitation services, Texas Workforce Solutions, in conjunction with the Texas Workforce Commission (formerly known as the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitation Services), work to identify solutions to physical or other barriers that may limit one’s ability to recruit, hire, retain or accommodate an employee with a disability.
“Spindletop Center is honored to accept this award for our ongoing efforts to support those with disabilities,” said Spindletop Center Director of Business Development Heather Champion. “As a business that serves people with disabilities in Southeast Texas, our Center is in a unique position to know firsthand that disabilities do not inhibit one’s ability to succeed in their chosen field. We are, in fact, lucky to employ people who can use their own personal experiences to better understand the needs of our consumers.”
