Join the SETX YPO at Outback Steakhouse on Thursday, October 27th for luncheon with featured speaker Brian Alter, Owner of Alter's Gem Jewelry.

Brian Alter is the Owner of Alter’s Gem Jewelry, Ltd and Gem Distributing, Ltd. These organizations make up the 107-year-old, 3rd-generation jewelry and watch business known as Alter’s Gem Jewelry based here in Southeast Texas.
Alter’s Gem Jewelry is nationally recognized and respected as one of the premiere fine jewelers in the country. While the base of Alter’s business is focused in the Texas/Louisiana region, they have active clients in nearly all 50 states. They provide their customers with jewelry, watches and diamond products ranging in price from $20 to 7-figure specialty and custom pieces.
Brian Alter is a Graduate Gemologist who is sought out around the country for his skills in the evaluation of jewelry and watches for insurance and estate purposes. He has evaluated multi-million-dollar estates, including some in excess of 1,000 pieces of jewelry. These evaluations involve appraising and valuing the jewelry as well as defending those valuations the IRS if needed. Additionally, he is often responsible for the sales of such estates – which can be accomplished privately or in coordination with fine auction houses like Sothoby’s, Christie’s and Heritage.
Brian is a founding member of Preferred Jewelers International, a network of nearly 200 stores across the US that support each other’s warranties and clients. It has created a community of jewelers that maintain a consistent standard of customer service across the nation.
Brian Alter also currently serves as a board member of the Jewelers of America Political Action Committee and has worked on Capitol Hill with Senators and Congressman on issues involving both the jewelry industry as well as the broader retail industry. He has served as an expert in panel discussions involving jewelry ethics, training and education, and political action. He also served as a featured trainer at Hearts on Fire University for eight years, as a Consultant Director with Scull & Company for 2 years, and on the Retail Advisory Boards for the Couture and Centurion Jewelry Shows.
Brian Alter was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in accounting and earned his designation as a Certified Public Accountant. He later graduated from the Bates College of Law at the University of Houston and practiced for several years specializing in tax and real estate law.
Locally, Brian Alter has served as a City Council Member for the City of Beaumont, President of the Symphony of Southeast Texas, President of the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Southeast Texas, Director for the Better Business Bureau, Director of Congregation Temple Emanuel, Director of Congregation B’Nai Shalom, and Assistant Scoutmaster and merit badge counselor for the Beaumont chapter of the Boy Scouts of America.
Married to Lori Alter for 40 years, he is a father to four children and has one grandchild who just celebrated her second birthday.
The Southeast Texas Young Professionals Organization (SETX YPO) is a Division of the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce. SETX YPO is an organization of young professionals between the ages of 21 and 40, living in Hardin, Jefferson and Orange Counties, interested in making a difference in their community and networking with other young professionals with similar interests.
